BACKSTAGE

Stage Crew

Help move scenery, pull curtains, operate special effects -- there can be as much "action" backstage as there is out front during a big show. Our Tech Director would love to sign you up.  No experience needed!

Set Builders & Painters

Prior to each show, the our set crews are busy transforming the stage. Our skilled technical staff works with volunteers to build and paint our elaborate sets and props. Carpentry and painting skills a plus but not always necessary.

Stage Managers

The Production Stage Manager heads up the tech crews, calls cues.

Assistant Stage Managers

Assistant Stage Managers  work with the PSM during rehearsals with administrative projects and during performances to ensure a smooth production. They are the “eyes and ears” of the PSM backstage. This is a great way to learn the ropes!

Lighting & Sound

During the performances the light board operator runs the light cues on our computer light board and the crew guides spotlights. The sound board operator runs a multi-channel mixing board to control music, sound effects and microphones.

COSTUMING

Costume Construction

Whether you are a beginner or highly skilled, we can find a costume project that's perfectly suited for you. Building and maintaining costume pieces uses both sewing and non-sewing skills. Perhaps you can work backstage on the costume run crew to assist actors with costume changes or help us select from existing costumes and build new ones. No experience needed!

Front of House & Box Office

Ushers & Ticket Takers

Join us for the performances! Ushers are needed to take tickets and assist our patrons to their seats. You generally work one performance per show, though many enjoy working more. This is a wonderful way to be a part of the magic  and see the shows for free!  No experience needed!

Concession Help

Volunteers assist the Concessions Manager with sales, inventory,  and other front of house projects.  No experience needed, but training is required.

Box Office Help

Volunteers assist the Administrative Staff with ticket sales, answering phones, mailings, updating archives and other projects in the Box Office. Or you can also work the Will-Call Window before evening and matinee performances. To sign up, contact the ACT Box Office at (225) 647-1230  or email boxoffice@actgonzales.org

Committees

Committeeship

ACT is run by an all volunteer Board of Directors. But the planning of activities are a product of our committees. A seat on the board is not required for every committee! View our list of committees  here and their purpose to see if you have an interest in joining in the magic today!
